Why I've ditched foundation

Why I've ditched foundation

You may of seen my ramblings lately about how I have decided to kick foundation to the curb for a little while and let my skin "breathe".

There are a number of reasons I've decided to do this. And here they are.

Firstly, I had a think as to why I actually wear foundation. I have been using it since I was about 15 and it's a vicious cycle. You use it to cover your blemishes and uneven skin tone, but really, we are making our skin worse by using it.
I have a really good skin care routine and I take care of my skin like its religion, but I still am very aware that if I didn't use foundation, I may not have to work as hard.
I use it to make myself feel good. To look good and to show the world I mean business. But it comes with some drawbacks.

Touch your face and it's time for touch ups and to wash your hands.

Wear glasses? Yucky foundation residue is sliding about all over those beautiful frames. They need a clean too.

Having to clean your phone screen after every call to wipe of the gunk.

Foundation is a pricey habit. I spend £28 on my bottle roughly every 8-10 weeks.

Getting make up on your partners clothing when you hug them.

Getting make up on clothes when you try them on in a shop. We have all seen the foundation stained tops.

These reasons all seem a bit daft and are generally all things we can put up with to look good. But I did it for other reasons too.

When I take my makeup off at the end of the day, I'm not unhappy with how I look. I love the feeling of my naked skin and my man loves it too. So why I am feeling the need to cover up when I go out?

Every time I leave the house without my make up, I kind of don't bother with anything else either. I generally have skipped make up because I'm in a rush and plan on stopping for no one!

So, I decided if I still my hair and dressed how I normally would, did my usual eye make up routine; I might feel ok going bare faced.

Well this is exactly what I did.

At first, I felt self conscious. I think I felt like I wasn't wearing any make up. But later in the day I started feeling all the benefits and I felt fine.
When I caught myself in the mirror I didn't feel hideous. My skin felt great.

I noticed things like wearing my glasses, and if I got hot I could splash with water and it just didn't matter! I didn't have to worry about everything staying in place or sliding off my face, touch ups or anything.

Of course, there is the slight concern that you might forget you have eye make up on and rub your eye...but we have all been there!!

Removing my make up was easy peasy and I used half the product I usually would.

I will still wear foundation for occasions, nights out etc, but I wanted to feel confident just enhancing my natural face and giving my skin some time off.

I haven't looked back, and I hope if you've been thinking about it, you go for it. You honestly will enjoy it!
