Hair Training Camp

How I trained my hair!!

Do you have greasy hair? Do you have to wash your hair like ALL THE TIME. I was once like you.

But not anymore.

My hair used to need washing every other day and that was pushing it. I would have to dry shampoo the hell out of it before going anywhere on day two. By the end of day one it was starting to feel greasy. Whilst dry shampoo is amazing, I don't think it helped the situation. Long term it wasn't solving the need of washing my hair so often and it made my hair feel so dry ( I know, the irony) and hard to manage.
I read up on the 'No Poo' theory loads. But I wasn't ready for this. Plus I still colour my hair and I think you're not meant to if you're going full 'no poo'.
(If you are not familiar with the 'No Poo' then it's all here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_poo )

I started off by brushing my hair more. Sounds simple right? The grease that comes from your scalp and settles on your roots is what makes you think you need to wash your hair. So when you brush it you can 'spread' or disperse your hairs natural oils down the rest of your hair shaft. This helps to protect your lengths from the elements but also makes the top look less of a Brylcreem convention.

Then, I would only wash my fringe every other day. This gave my hair an instant refresh and distracts from any grease lurking elsewhere. If you don't have a fringe I would suggest just washing the front part as this is the bit that gets greasy the quickest and is the most obvious.

Shoving your hair up will be something you'll have to do while you're waiting out the need to wash so frequently though, but I like to wear my hair up a lot anyway so this wasn't a big issue for me. If your hair is shorter and you're not able to put your hair up, you may have to spritz your hair with water and quickly breeze over with the hair dryer for an instant de grease.

Ditch cheap shampoo. It may be tempting as you get through so much of the stuff to buy cheap brands that smell good. Thing is these are packed with synthetics and plastics that coat your hair in chemicals. THESE are the reason your hair produces so much oil and THESE are the reason you have to wash your hair so often. Invest a good shampoo, it will be worth it.

Before bed - Brush your hair through as usual, I started rubbing a little talcum powder in to my hands and rubbing into the roots before bed. By the time I get up it's soaked up some oil and you can just brush out any trace of the talc in the morning. I don't have to do this so much now but in the beginning it was a real lifesaver. ( I tie my hair up for bed, as i'm trying to grow it out and this helps to prevent breakages)

After taking these steps, I now can go 5/6 days without washing my hair and it still looks decent. I can wear my hair down and not have to worry. In fact I now prefer my hair a couple of days after washing! Never thought I would be saying that!!

Hopefully these tips can work for you and free you from endless hours of what seems like a losing battle. From now on, you'll be winning...
