Long long ago - I was a natural blonde. Long, long ago.
Now however, I have to painstakingly undergo a lengthy process of hiding my glorious mouse brown roots under a layer of luscious light blonde hair dye every few weeks to keep the dream alive!!!
This can and is obviously very damaging. I try to help my out in any other way that I can because I basically refuse to not colour my hair. It just ain't happening ok...
I try to only wash my hair once a week, I avoid dry shampoo as I find it *ironically* very drying (my hair felt like a horse could quite happily munch on it and not be able to tell the difference between my hair and it's usual snack of hay). I use hair masks, hair oils, don't heat style where possible and ALL SORTS of lovely things.
BUT I do always try to use the best shampoo.
So many of the top drugstore or supermarket brands are full of plastics and chemicals and other delights that they are super bad for your hair, causing you to wash it more often and so the cycle continues. They make your hair feel very nice but it's not your hair that feels like that, its all the junk up inside these lovely bottles! So when I decided to switch to a better quality shampoo, I remember when I was in my late teens and had bleached blonde hair. I used to use the Andrew Barton Ultimate Blonde, it was great for gently lightening my hair in between bleaching. I cannot believe I used to bleach my hair that much thought *crying inside*. So I thought I would grab another bottle of this stuff and it's as good as I remember, It's about £5.00 a bottle and it smells amazing, It lathers well, feels great and rinses out with no residue. I lurve it. My hair is soft, easy to comb through when wet and easy to style between washes. Once I came near to the end of this bottle, I thought 'If this feels great, imagine how great my hair would be if I spent a little more?'
HA.
So I spent £20.95 on a duo of TIGI Dumb Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner. I had good memories of using this at the hair salon I did my apprenticeship in many moons ago. I was expecting my hair to be a beautiful flowing tumble of golden soft luxury but it was far from. I'm not even sure what happened here. After the first use I was majorly unimpressed, it took a lot of product to get a lather and I had to do three shampoos to get a really clean feeling. I used the conditioner too, which is meant to be a 'reconstructor'. Both have a nice scent but neither felt nice in the shower. I found my hair hard to comb through and the days following my hair was unmanageable.
I kept using it because I had spent a lot of money but also because I thought it would take my hair a while to adjust maybe. I just have to say no though. No more. It's not nice for me.
My hair has felt dull, dry and just hard to manage ever since.
I am definitely switching back to Andrew Barton, which I cannot recommend enough if you are blonde, naturally or out of a bottle. It's a lush shampoo and it lasts for ages. You only need a small amount to get a good lather.
p.s Andrew Barton Shampoo is exclusive to ASDA Supermarkets!
