Anxiety Combat #2

Remember my last post about #Anxiety? I asked readers for some tips or tricks on how you deal with everyday problems caused by stress and different types of anxiety.
I had a fantastic response and I am really pleased! So I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all.

The tip that was commonly suggested was Breathing. Just breathing. Seems crazy simple right?!

Well we all know about the breathing techniques that are taught to fight panic attacks, but actually we can learn a lot about how we should all be breathing correctly, which in turn could prevent panic attacks and calm us down.

We often breathe far too shallowly. To breathe properly, you should be using your diaphragm.

Then, take 10 large, deep, breaths through your nose, taking in as much air as possible, before slowly breathing out through your mouth. If you try taking your pulse again, you should feel your heart rate has stabilized to a slower rate.

You can do this at any time you get the warning signs of a panic attack or when you are feeling nervous, or worried.
I like to do this at night when I am having trouble sleeping. It will feel odd at first, as you may not be used to it, but it is the correct way to breathe and will benefit you.

Another method you can try daily to assist with good breathing is to correct your posture. You should always try to stand up straight (or sit tall with your back straight ) and take deep breaths. When doing this, try to push your stomach out on the inhale, this is how babies breathe, you may notice their stomachs 'inflate' while breathing and they breathe much slower. Pushing your stomach out while breathing means more oxygen can get into your lungs.

Exhaling slowly, you'll feel your stomach return and relax. It DOES work. Give it a try and let me know how you get on!!

I am always interested in hearing new tips and tricks that you may have, so let me know on Twitter @4theblonde or comment down below! I would love to hear from you. Thank you!
